I could never get relaxed using my hands (via knitting or crocheting), and I tend to get absorbed into the task I'm doing and go overboard in effort.
Instead I'll read something or watch a show, and an idea will just hit me. Another muse is dreaming. Though my favourite is rping, mainly because it brings inspiration and it helps me think through how my characters would react.
